Medibank has revealed a major change to its service offering this weekend as it undertakes maintenance to its systems to bolster security following the recent cyber attack.

The Medibank and ahm systems will be shutdown from 8.30pm AEDT on Friday, December 9, with the private health insurance giant expecting them to be restored on Sunday, December 11.

Offer ends 31 October, 2023 "We apologise for the inconvenience this operation may cause customers, but this is the next necessary phase of our ongoing work to further safeguard our network, called 'Operation Safeguard'," the statement said.

The Russian hackers behind the cyber attack said in November said they had the names, addresses, date of birth, phone numbers, email addresses and gender of about 9.7 million current and former customers.
